Diving into an Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have found plenty of entertaining independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure lets you play a character that is truly a dung striving to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: you only need a jump control. Across 150 stages, battle mini-bosses and access a store to acquire skins for your poop character.

Plan your movements with caution, since one mistake forces starting over. Bounce on floating orbs to launch yourself upward, navigate fragile platforms, and interact with buttons to unlock new areas. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase tougher game content as things gets crazy.

In terms of design, the game features vibrant level designs and an amazing soundtrack. The retro art with moving abstract forms evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of previous releases where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment have long included fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create throwables from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already earned notable awards, such as winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is ready currently on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on Steam on November 19.
