Disturbing Footage Captures Instant Officers Are Stabbed in Surprise Attack
A senior officer who rushed to the help of a partner that was assaulted by a knife attacker received the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a weapon to the throat of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a road collision in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Policeman knifed," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his radio.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera footage released by the police department revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a head covered, run up to Sgt Foster from behind with a weapon outstretched.
He collided with the policeman who tripped and dropped to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor even though being continually attacked with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and waited for a open target, bringing the fight to an end.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get something on my neck now, I got knifed in the throat."
Sgt Ansell received multiple lacerations to his neck and further cuts to his arms and torso, whereas Sgt Foster suffered cut injuries.
The department said Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his partner's bleeding before medical personnel reached the scene.
The latest award follows subsequent to the trio of policemen were granted departmental Courage Honors in October 2023 and the police federation award from the area officer association in spring 2024.
They were also awarded a Regional Bravery Award in July 2024.
"The efforts of each policeman ultimately saved one another and meant no civilians experienced any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, according to officials.
